This paper is developed as a report of a doctoral research focused on revealing the educational impact of the actions developed by alternative education that have been advanced by organized communities in the department of Cauca to defend life and territory during the period from 2000 to 2020. The research study recognizes that in Latin America, in the mid-50s and until the 60s, an educational model recognized as popular education emerged, which was based on community dialogue as a strategy for the preservation of the cultural identity of indigenous and peasant minority communities who, as a result of imperialist and capitalist economic development, have borne the brunt in terms of destruction of ancestral knowledge. and their territories. Subsequently, movements recognized as own and peasant education have emerged, thus forming the great group of alternative educations. From perspective, a methodological route was followed with a qualitative paradigm of descriptive type and interpretive design, with the participation of 15 teachers from the municipalities of Caldono and La Vega (Cauca) who are also characterized by being social leaders, the techniques for the collection of information were the focused interview, observation, and life history. It was concluded that alternative education has been a source of consolidation of cultural and ancestral knowledge and has been concerned for decades with designing and implementing resistance actions for the defense of life and territory, especially from pedagogy based on community dialogue and respect for ancestral traditions.
