Los rápidos cambios tecnológicos e innovaciones disruptivas son fuerzas que transforma nuestro entorno, incluyendo la manera en que vivimos y trabajamos (Selvi, 2023, p. 4). Ante este fenómeno, las instituciones de educación superior se ven forzadas a replantear sus estrategias y estructuras para brindar una oferta académica integral y de vanguardia que se encuentre a la altura de las exigencias actuales de los estudiantes y comunidades a las que sirven, una “educación de nueva generación”.

Este articulo expone, como caso de estudio, el proceso por el cual la Universidad Concordia transitó para sentar las bases de una estrategia sostenible que le permite ofrecer una educación inclusiva, de calidad y vanguardia, al mismo tiempo que mantiene un vínculo estrecho con la sociedad.

El autor sostiene que un modelo de educación de nueva generación efectivo debe incorporar como parte de su oferta académica elementos tales como el aprendizaje experimental, el fomento al espíritu emprendedor, el desarrollo de proyectos colaborativos interdisciplinarios, la educación continua, entre otros. Y que es fundamental desarrollar y mantener una relación estrecha de ganar-ganar con su comunidad.

Rapid Technological changes and disruptive innovation are forces transforming our environment, including the way we live and work (Selvi, 2023). In light of this phenomenon, higher education institutions are forced to rethink their strategies and structures to offer comprehensive and cutting-edge academic programs that meet its students and community’s demands, “a new education model".

This article presents, as a case study, Concordia University’s process that led to the foundations of a sustainable strategy that allows the University to offer an inclusive, quality, and cutting-edge education while maintaining close links with society.

The author maintains that “new generation education models” must incorporate, as part of its academic programs, elements such as experimental learning, entrepreneurial support, interdisciplinary collaborative approaches to research, and continuing education, among others. Finally, he highlights the importance of developing and maintaining a close and mutually beneficial relationship with their communities.

Prof. Julio R Sevilla

Concordia University Flag of Canadá

Julio Sevilla, MBA, is responsible for international projects at Concordia University in Montreal. He formally served as Director for Research Partnerships for the Canadian Institute for Advanced Research (CIFAR) and as a Senior Advisor for International Relations at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC), where he managed the Canadian membership for the International Council for Science (ISCU), supported Canada’s participation in the G8 Head of Research Councils (G8-HORCS) and the Canadian participation in international forums related to “science advise to government”.

His background and training are in the fields of international relations, research partnerships, and international development. He has coordinated multi-stakeholder partnerships in support of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and different international cooperation projects in Africa and Latin America.

He is a former member of the Canadian International Council (CIC) and the Mexican Council for International Affairs (COMEXI). He currently chairs the cross-Canadian International Relations community, associated with the Canadian Bureau for International Education.
