III Taller “Universidad, Envejecimiento y Desarrollo Sostenible”.
El envejecimiento activo implica el desarrollo de un modelo de sociedad en el que el
adulto mayor tenga la oportunidad de ser protagonistas de su vida, en un quehacer
proactivo y no como meros receptores de productos, servicios o cuidados. El
enfoque comunitario del envejecimiento activo implica la necesidad de que las
personas mayores tengan la oportunidad de participar, en cualquier esfera de su
contexto comunitario. Las universidades para mayores se proponen integrar al
adulto mayor y su grupo a sus comunidades, ofreciéndoles herramientas que les
permitan interactuar y sentir que la edad no es un impedimento para aprender,
desarrollar conocimientos y habilidades que les posibiliten mantener roles de
participación social. Las Cátedras Universitarias del Adulto Mayor son Cátedras
Honorificas que desarrollan su actividad desde el proceso extensionista de la
universidad cubana, articulan en su labor a equipos multidisciplinarios de profesores,
especialistas, promotores y cursantes que realizan acciones educativas para
diseñar, desarrollar, investigar y promover aprendizajes; que permitan a los
cursantes apropiarse de herramientas para generar oportunidades de participación
activa de sus miembros en los espacios comunitarios donde desarrolla su labor.
Active aging implies the development of a model of society in which the elderly have
the opportunity to be protagonists of their lives, in a proactive task and not as mere
recipients of products, services or care. The community approach to active aging
implies the need for older people to have the opportunity to participate, in any sphere
of their community context. Universities for the elderly intend to integrate the elderly
and their group into their communities, offering them tools that allow them to interact
and feel that age is not an impediment to learning, developing knowledge and skills
that enable them to maintain roles of social participation. The University Chairs for
the Elderly are Honorary Chairs that develop their activity from the extension process
of the Cuban university, articulate in their work multidisciplinary teams of teachers,
specialists, promoters and students who carry out educational actions to design,
develop, investigate and promote learning; that allow the students to appropriate
tools to generate opportunities for active participation of their members in the
community spaces where they carry out their work.
