Resumen
Para analizar la pintura académica realizada en Cuba en la etapa colonial, hay que particularizar en la Academia de San Alejandro, ello debe realizarse teniendo en cuenta los contextos que inciden en la institución a todo lo largo del complejo siglo XIX. La institución y sus artistas tributaron tanto en obras, como en la introducción de nuevos estilos, métodos y concepciones artísticas a la historia del arte cubano, en especial al arte pictórico. El bicentenario de esta institución (2018) favorece un replanteamiento investigativo que facilite respuestas científicas en torno al tema. ¿Entonces, cuáles son los aportes de la pintura académica en Cuba en el siglo XIX a la historia de Cuba referidos por la historiografía? Siendo objetivo de este trabajo sistematizar la producción historiográfica sobre la pintura académica del siglo XIX en Cuba, de modo que podamos acercarnos a esa historia que nos han legado los textos sobre esta institución. Por tales motivos creemos justo la revalorización de la pintura académica sin evaluarla más allá del horizonte de expectativas de su génesis. Su Historia pide a gritos verla como lo que realmente es: la institución que impulsó la pintura cubana para convertirla en una de las más importantes de Latinoamérica.
Abstract
To analyze the academic painting made in Cuba in the colonial period, it is necessary to particularize in the San Alejandro Academy, this must be done taking into account the contexts that affect the institution throughout the complex nineteenth century. The institution and its artists contributed both in works and in the introduction of new styles, methods and artistic conceptions to the history of Cuban art, especially to pictorial art. The bicentennial of this institution (2018) favors a research rethinking that facilitates scientific answers on the subject. So, what are the contributions of academic painting in Cuba in the 19th century to the history of Cuba referred to by historiography? The objective of this work is to systematize the historiographic production on academic painting of the 19th century in Cuba, so that we can get closer to that history that the texts about this institution have bequeathed to us. For these reasons, we believe it is fair to revalue academic painting without evaluating it beyond the horizon of expectations of its genesis. His History cries out to see it for what it really is: the institution that promoted Cuban painting to make it one of the most important in Latin America.
